Body composition, mood and more
In a small prospective trial, 6 months of DHEA replacement therapy with 50 mg per day showed enhanced increases in fat-free mass in 18 elderly individuals compared to sex- and age-matched controls who were not receiving DHEA.5 Other studies of DHEA regimens in women suggest beneficial effects on well-being and mood and sexuality.4,6 Studies also show DHEA may alleviate melancholy and may also benefit the aging brain.8-9
Cardio, circulatory and structural health
DHEA has the capacity to improve vascular health by a number of complex processes.3 One of them is increasing nitric oxide synthesis. DHEA has also been shown to support a healthy circulatory system and joint/bone health. In a randomized, double-blind, controlled trial of 225 healthy older adults, one year of DHEA supplementation (50 mg per day) helped protect lumbar spine bone mineral density in the women.10

DHEA: usage and safety precautions
When it comes to developing a personalized, effective DHEA regimen, regular blood testing is highly recommended both for dosage accuracy and blood level monitoring. Because of the overwhelming evidence connecting low levels of DHEA to age-related factors, Life Extension suggests that most people over age 40 begin DHEA supplementation. The starting supplemental dose of DHEA for most people is 15 to 25 mg a day, though some people will require higher doses to reach youthful levels.
